Egg substitute calculator: amounts for 1 to 6 eggs
Choose how many eggs the recipe calls for and which substitute you want to use, and the calculator multiplies the standard per-egg amounts for you. It uses the same figures as the egg substitutes guide, so the two always agree.
How to use the calculator
- Pick the number of eggs to replace, from 1 to 6.
- Pick a substitute. The amounts appear straight away, in grams or millilitres with the nearest spoon or cup measure beside them.
- Follow the note under the amounts, for example how long flax or chia needs to rest before it is used.
Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you choose is sent anywhere.
Before you rely on the amounts
- Replace eggs one for one only in recipes that use one or two. If a recipe needs three or more eggs, the eggs are the structure, so choose a recipe written without eggs.
- The amounts are for a large egg of about 50 g without its shell. Aquafaba is the amount for a whole egg.
- Which substitute suits which bake is covered in the egg substitutes guide, linked below. Egg-free is not allergen-free, so read the label on tofu, yogurt and replacer powders.
What this tool is based on
- The per-egg amounts are the same commonly published rule-of-thumb figures used in the egg substitutes guide. They are general cooking knowledge, not results from our own test baking.
- The calculator only multiplies those per-egg figures by the number of eggs. It does not adjust for the recipe, so results vary by recipe.
